For the first time, the Pentagon said it would respond to any cyber attack against the United States that caused significant damage to either its population or infrastructure with actual a real world military strike. In a report published by the Wall Street Journal newspaper, the Pentagon said it would cause "equivalent" damage in response to any online assault. The more pressing question, though, is how could the Pentagon determine with absolute certainty the country of origin of a cyber attack?
